About a Vampire An Argeneau Novel Argeneau Vampire Lynsay Sands Books

Lynsay Sands knows humor and knows her target audience with her Argeneau Novels. I am not knocking them because I have purchased them all; it is a great escape from reality and the everyday drivel. This story focuses on Justin Bricker and his 'lifemate' Holly. It goes left when it is supposed go right - I liked the ending; it was a bit muddled but it was an overall good read. Bricker provides the laughs normally in these books but it had Anders and another enforcer getting him back. It was great.

About a Vampire An Argeneau Novel Argeneau Vampire Lynsay Sands Books Reviews

I have read this book twice. I read it the first time and felt something was off but wasn't sure what is was. So I waited a couple of weeks and reread it. What bothered me the most was that the rules for new turns in other books seemed to be ignored. For instance, previously new hires had to be watched over closely until they learned to feed and recognize their hunger. It was also to protect the mortals from being attacked by someone in a blood lust. In this book she is allowed to return home immediately. Justin watching from the roof doesn't seem adequate.

SPOILER

Another area is the turn itself. In other books 4 old immortals weren't enough to hold down someone going through a turn but here one new turn (whose nanos are still repairing lingering damage from diabetes) is able to hold down someone turning while controlling a mortal. Why didn't anyone else ever think to knock out a turn so they were quiet? Remember Leigh screaming through a plane ride because she didn't have drugs?

I didn't like how this story was resolved. She should have had to make the rough choice between her husband and Justin. Remember how much Rachel fought the rules she didn't like until she realized they were valid? It seemed like Ms Sands didn't want her heroine to have to change her beliefs but it was ok for her husband to.

Definitely not my favorite but I look forward to the next one and already have it preordered.
Spoilers!

Is this even the same author? I had to keep checking to make sure. The plot sounded promising but the story was severely lacking. Nothing like the authors regular books and it was the worst one of the series. I have been waiting for it because of it being Bricker story. Holly was whiny, unbelievable as a character, and really just blah! Bricker was lacking his usual smartasseyness, loss of brain...really how did it take him sooooo long to figure out that Anders and Decker set him up?, and just acted so not his self we've seen in past books. All he wanted was sex! There was no villian what so ever in this book and that would have been fine if there was a better story and not so much repetition. I find it odd that such a strick taskmaster Lucian would have just let a newly turned loose on the city, hardly any of them remembered she needed blood (and after the 1st attack from her it shouldn't have been hard), she got over being mad about being drugged quickly, loss of pay for her "trip" would have been a bigger deal (yet they could fund her clothes, food, wrecked car?), and excuse me she was diabetic to the point where missing two readings could put her in a coma, but didn't think of checking her blood hardly ever? The end was a neat little package you can see coming and I felt through the whole book Sands just wanted to get this book out the way and didn't really try.
The reason I gave two stars was because Bricker got his ending but I think we as readers were shorted.
I was so disappointed with this book. I have always enjoyed the Argeneau novels and anxiously waited for the next release. For that reason alone I gave it two stars instead of one.

This book was so far off base from her previous story lines I couldn't help but wonder if someone else wrote it. Also, the usual characters are no where to be found. Lucien shows up briefly a couple times. Marguerite makes an appearance in the final chapter.

***SPOILER ALERT***
The story was basically as follows Holly a whining, immature woman, meets an equally whining, immature Justin. Holly runs from Justin, (with scissors in her hand, of course) when she see him disposing of dead bodies. He stands there dumbfounded because he can't control her, which means she is likely his "life mate". When he finally goes after her he, of course, can't catch up to her, even though he has immortal speed. She falls, impales herself, he turns her. Justin is excited he has found his life mate and now can have wild monkey sex. That is all he talks about for the entire book in relation to finding his life-mate. Holly is married to a man who is as clueless as everyone else in the book and just as unlikeable. Their marriage is so disfunctional it is truly unbelievable. Mind you this is coming from someone who reads vampire novels!! That covers the first 4 chapters. The next 12 chapters have them living in the same house while he and several other immortals train her and consist of Justin talking about getting Holly in bed, although, he rarely talks to her and avoids her as much as possible. While Holly whines about not breaking her wedding vows. Literally nothing else happens! She then goes home to her husband, whom she has not spoken with for the 2 weeks she is gone to be "trained" and neither of them find this strange. Then there is 3 Chapters describing their dysfunctional relationship. I won't give away the ending, but I will say it was as anti-climatic as the rest of the story. The entire book could have been condensed into 3 Chapters.

I have loved all the previous books so much I am holding out hope the next one is as entertaining as the previous ones.
