Can I bid on a cowboy like Jared? Hot Mama!

I believe this is the first Janet Wellington book that I have read and I will most likely read more. There isn't a whole lot of sex and super adulty scenes in this book, and that is okay!

Jared is an Alpaca farmer who is a single father to Jamaica, or Jamie for short!
Lacey is a salon manager and is looking for the perfect man for her, someone who isn't a single father, someone who isn't older than her, someone who doesn't mind that she works. She's also on the hunt for a Cowboy that will be in an auction to help the mall where her salon is located make money. She finds Jared, and the sparks fly right off the bat.

Honestly, I wanted to reach in and yell at both Lacey and Jared for refusing to admit their feelings about one another. They both kind of self sabotage themselves. I was happy when Lacey decided to go to Jamie's birthday party, because I thought, FINALLY, something with them is about to happen. I am glad that Jared got some balls and told Lacey how he felt.

Now, while I did like the book, this isn't a book that I just absolutely LOVED! The ending was very abrupt, and ended with too many questions. There's an engagement, and then an epilogue that is a year later. Couldn't we have read more about the wedding, the planning, the honeymoon ;) or something?

I rated this book a 4 stars because it could have been way worse, but it also could have been just a tad bit better also!

COWBOY FOR SALEA SecondChances Spicy Romance edition by Janet Wellington Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

This is probably the first book by this author that I have read. I thought the characters were interesting and the settings were refreshingly different. I also thought the romance between Jared and Lacey developed at a believable pace. I'm a sucker for cowboy romances and the fact that Jared was an alpaca rancher didn't lessen his appeal.

There was a little more detail to the sex than I prefer to read but, thankfully, it was not the sizzling-hot, over-the-top sex scenes than I had been led to expect. All-in-all, this was a sweet, happily-ever-after love story.

Being a proofreader in my past, I couldn't help but notice several misspelled words and other errors which are typical for an ebook, especially by an independent author. (I'll keep my notes for awhile if Ms. Wellington is interested in how to correct the errors.) I'll be willing to read more books by her.
Lacey Murdock manages a hair salon in the mall, and she’s responsible for finding two handsome cowboys that are willing to be auctioned off at the charity event the mall is having, and she needs to find them fast. She decides the best place to find a cowboy is at the most popular country music club in San Diego. While waiting for one of her coworkers to show up she meets Jared Dillon. The handsome cowboy is perfect for the auction except he’s wearing a wedding ring, so there is no way she can ask him to a participant in the auction. Right?

Jared is a single dad who loves his little girl more than anything. He raises alpaca on his ranch and has created a decent life for just the two of them. But there is something about Lacey that peaks his interest even though he knows she is all about her career. He’s lived that life once and he’ll never do it again, but he cannot stop thinking about her. When he hears that one of the cowboys is not going to show up at the charity event he steps in. A few surprise bids lead to Jared and Lacey sharing a romantic weekend at a cabin in the mountains.

Lacey is finished dating men with children. It hurts too much when the relationships end and she has to leave the child too. She’s where she wants to be in her career and right now she is not looking to have a man in her life. And she already likes Jared’s little girl, so she cannot let herself get any closer to him. Will their time in the cabin bring them together? Or will they both walk away possibly missing out on finding true love?
A touching story that kept my attention from the beginning. Lacey Murdock was a career businesswoman. Everything she did was with the intention of advancing on up the ladder. She had put together a group of workers who worked well together and focused on the customer. She had been unlucky in love and had no desire to repeat that mistake.
Jarrod Dillon was a single father. His daughter, Jamaica (Jaime), was everything. His wife didn't want to be a mom. She was career minded. Nothing else mattered. He would never make the mistake of getting involved with a career focused woman again.
When I started reading this story, I wondered how in the world was the author going to make this work. Silly me, she did it seamlessly. Lacey's character is so full of nuturing, love and humor, you can't help but love her back.
Jarrod is a tough guy with a soft heart trying to protect himself. No matter how hard their minds fought the attraction, their hearts told them different.
This is a story that will stick with you and leave you feeling wonderful. A great romance.
So. I was shocked at one point in the story when a character states that it's the 21st century, because the book reads like it was the early 80's. The hero is opposed to a "career woman"? And that label includes the manager of a mall-chain salon? And the mall throws a black-tie "annual meeting" dinner-dance, where the hero's rival is dressed in a white silk suit with a collarless shirt and a ponytail? What?!?!? Where does that happen? And all of her clients get perms....including a cowboy who plays in a country band. Really? The author's notes state that the story is recycled from something she wrote in 1998, and she says she modernized it. But I remember 1998, and it was a far cry from what's depicted in the story. The hero cowboy dresses for a weekend away in jeans and a denim shirt, with a red bandanna around his neck? As other reviewers have said, the romance also comes to a drastically abrupt ending. In fact, it's over at 63% on the . I don't think this author is for me. The daughter was written cute (although her name is never explained). But I couldn't get past the odd descriptions and environment these characters live in (and I'm not even talking about the geo-dome-house).
